1/12/2008  Poland's government forecasts 2% for 2009 growth amid global slowdown

While the rest of the world is experiencing an economic slowdown, Poland is bucking the trend with a growth forecast of 2%.  “The consequences of the global crisis for Poland are not so grave,” says Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.  Poland’s economy has been booming since the country joined the EU in 2004, with average growth rates of 5% a year. To guard against knock-on effects of the global economic slowdown the government has adopted a stimulus plan worth 91.3bn zlotys (£20.6bn).  Some of this will be used for bank guarantees, business loans and developing renewable energy sources.
